Sofia's 15 months old!

Sofia Sofia Sofia. I think she still feels like the spotlight is on her around here. She hardly notices the baby unless he is crying. She does still have the spotlight somewhat since she has so much personality. It is just very different attention than what Hektor gets.

At 15 moths Sofia...

*is a GREAT big sister. she brings me his bottle and paci when he cries and sometimes tries to stick it in his mouth and or nose. she rocks him when hes in the car seat (sometimes too rough). She pushes him in his swing. she is very sweet!

*has 8 teeth. 5 on bottom 3 on top. shes getting the 4th on top but hasn't cut yet.

*she is back to eating mushy baby food. im not sure if her gums are super sensitive but we are still on puree stuff 80 % of the time. every once and a while i can get her to eat some solids in tiny pieces. she went through a period of time when she was only drinking bottles she was in so much pain. we had a few secret trips to mcdonalds to get her some fries...don't tell daddy!

* is in the phase were she takes off her diaper. im not sure if its a sign shes ready to train. we got her a potty but right now i don't have time to actually train her.

*she loves remotes and cell phones

*hasn't had a play date in a while but she does get to go to baby gym with me about 3 days a week so thats play time for her.

*she talks a lot. she says lots of words now, and can repeat most things too. she says cat, cute,ball, momma, squirrel, bath, baby, belly button on a daily basis.

* she only takes one nap a day now, which is a bummer for me but shes getting older now.

*IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT! :D

*she runs now..kinda, she is very uncoordinated...she got her first shiner this morning. she was trying to bring her walker downstairs and tumbled all the way down with it. but she was still holding onto it when she got to the bottom. shes tough and strong!

*she smiles all the time, and her eyes dance!

all in all she is happy and healthy and that makes me happy!

one month has come and gone so quickly. yet some days were so aweful it felt like we were moving in slow motion and the day would never end.not that i sleep at night anyways but...



i think i know what it feels like to be crazy. one second both kids will be screaming bloody murder and i want to laugh/cry/scream/pull my hair out/hide under my bed/run away /and cry some more. then the chaos ends they are both content and happy and i feel normal again. so in less than 5 minutes i have experienced a roller coaster of emotions ranging from great to good to rough to aweful. BREATHE!

my house is a mess most of the time, i don't wash my hair every day, sometimes my teeth don't get brushed til after super, make up is usually never put on, we are pretty much prisoners in our own home because going out is such a chore, and one baby is usually crying, thats my day.

hektor is one month old! he is a sweet baby boy. i don't remember sofia needing to be held and fed so often. he never wants to be put down. he still wants to nurse all day and night. i've read about it and asked other nursing moms. they say its normal and he will grow out of it. and i can't wait. it totally limits me! i am starting to wonder if he has colic or maybe just a sensitive tummy. every day around 3:30 or 4 he starts to cry and nothing calms him down. we swaddle him, rock him, go outside, put him in his swing, give him a pacifier, etc. i bought gripe water and we will be trying that this week. i feel really bad for him since it seems he is in some sort of pain. and at the same time i get so frustrated. im doing everything possible and he doesn't stop crying :( on top of that when he starts to cry sometimes sofia does too. not because anything is wrong just for the attention. but hopefully the gripe water helps my poor angel.

at one month he:

nurses every 2 hours for about 30 minutes

has tons of dirty diapers

sleeps of and on all day

is very alert!

looks like his daddy!

has hair that seems to get more red every day, not an obnoxious red, its a brown red

likes the swing somewhat

loves to be held

loves to be swaddled

does not sleep through the night, wakes every two hours to nurse

goes to bed at 8pm, wakes at 11, again at 130, again at 4, again at 6:30 (estimations)

seems to be awake much more than sofia was

hasn't really adjusted

seems uncomfortable often:(

hope he gets comfy with the outside world soon. he seems like a worry wart! lol
we love having him here with us finally. he is such a sweetie pie!

Hektor's 1st week of life...SOFIA 14 MONTHS!

Hektor is one week old today! He is doing really well. He is a bottomless pit! He is constantly eating! He nurses for 40 minutes, every hour and a half...so yeah, I have very little time to get stuff done.It is insane. Sofia did NOT have this appetite! He is sleeping well, eating, and awake very little. When he is awake he is very very calm.

Sofia at 14 months-

*She is an amazing BIG sister! Honestly, she is so cute around him. She isn't jealous of him at all. Day 2 she shared her sippy cup, Day 3 she put a cereal puff in his mouth. I wish I caught a picture.

* She has 6 teeth, 4 bottom, 2 top

*She wakes once during the night

*She is walking/running everywhere now

*She falls down a lot, but she is used to it

*Shes pretty much off the baby food

*She can get up and down the stairs all alone

*She loves to be outside

*She is very independent

*She is a chatterbox!!! Oh my word! Erik calls her motormouth...LOL

Erik goes back full time this Tuesday. I know he is tired. I hope he makes it through the day!

I'm tired, but this time around I'm not nearly as frustrated with the way things happen. I really couldn't care less if the neighbors pop by and my house smells like we just changed a diaper. I don't think about how tired I am anymore. This first year with Sofia went by sooo fast, that it just makes me appreciate the time I have with them now. Hektor has needs that require all of me and sooner than later he's not gonna want me around so I enjoy it while I can. Whenever I am frustrated I sing in my head...You're gonna miss this by Darius Rucker....You're gonna want this back...LOL. It helps!

Well, here is Hektor's arrival story...

My parents had always planned on coming up July 4th weekend since I was due July 4th and it was a holiday weekend. So Saturday, July 2nd started out like a normal Saturday. We went for a walk in the park, had a girls day out with my mom and sister, got pedicures, went to mass, then Erik decided he and I should go on a date since my parents were here to babysit Sofia. So we get to Texas Roadhouse and get put on the waiting list sit down and BOOM, contraction number 1, then ten minutes later, contraction number 2, we debated on whether to stay or go, but I really wanted a steak so we waited til we were seated. Got a table, ordered, food came, and I couldn't eat I was in too much pain. We took about 3/4ths of our plates home. By the time I got home 8:30 pm my contractions were 7 minutes apart. Called my doctor's office and they said to come in. So we went in and it all began. They admitted me around 10:30 pm, the doctor broke my water at 1 am, got the epidural around 1:30 am, slept, they woke me up at 4:45 am to check my progress and said I was ready to push. So they got the doctor, got the room ready, and two pushes later Hektor was in my arms at 5:02 am. It was a great experience! Everyone said labor would be so different than the 1st time, bit it wasn't for me.

Hektor weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces, 19 inches, dark brown hair,dark eyes.He is so passive and cool.

Sofia has been GREAT! She is really sweet with him, when she notices him. She is going through this independent phase. She wants to walk and talk like a grown up so she distracts herself. LOL. But day 3 she shared her sippy cup with him and day 4 she put a cheerio in his mouth :) She likes animals and for some reason I think she sees him as an animal not really a human. The way she gets when she sees a dog is the same way she gets when she sees him. I'm sure we will have our fill of jealousy and such but for now she has been amazingly sweet. It is my dream that they both know Erik and I love them equally so they have NO reason to be jealous of one another.

Erik has been off since last Thursday, he goes back to work tomorrow. My parents have been in town since last Friday and they leave back home today. THANK GOD my little 12 year old sister will be here for the next week to help me out. I am so greatful to have so much help. I do dread the day my sister goes back home though...

39 WEEKS 1 DAY!

AND READY! Just had our doctor appointment for the week, but nada. I'm dialated at a 3, which my doctor thought I would be further along since I was a solid 2 last week. I'm suprised as well and a bit disappointed. But I just have to remind myself its all part of the plan. She mentioned that she does work Sunday and we are supposed to have storms Saturday night so maybe that will put me into labor??? Who knows? But she did also make an appointment for July 5th, she said she could see me going another week. I really doubt that! I am going to start walking again every night like I did two weeks ago, that seemed to help.

I'm really tired of the "oh you poor thing" comments and looks. I really feel fine. People! Feel sorry for me AFTER I have the baby; when I have a husband, a 14 month old, and a newborn to deal with :) I appreciate the concern but really I feel great!

I am having contractions, lots of back pain, so I think we are making slow progress. Slow and steady wins the race. Come on baby!!!!!

I wonder what will happen if I start jumping rope? LOL! My parents are coming up Friday in hopes that it takes place over this holiday weekend so they can help with Sofia and of course meet Hektor.

OHHH and it is OFFICIAL Hektor Isaak Hanson! We hadn't decided on a middle name, but there it is folks!

Waiting Game

So we are 38 weeks 5 days today! My last doctor apopointment went well. She said I still measure right on track, blood pressure, weight, baby's heart rate, etc. all that is good. Last week I was dialated at -4, this week I'm a 2! PROGRESS!!!! When she told me I was a -4 last week I really vamped up the things they say to do to induce labor. I started walking these hills at Eisenhower Park, not sure if it was the walking or Hektor's agenda that bumped me along...maybe both. This week I have been too tired and not walked as much so we will see what she says next week, I go Monday at 2. My doctor said she thinks this is my last weekend with one baby. She said she will know more Monday 6/27, I will be 39 weeks 1 day.

We had a small storm the last two nights and OMGosh I thought I was going to go into labor. They say when the barametric pressure drops due to storms women tend to go into labor. Well I really thought I was going to be one of them. I had so many contractions and a totally sleepless night last night! The storm has passed so we will see if the contractions pass too. I hope so!

Sofia hosted her last playdate for the summer today! We had a great turn out. We are going to miss the mommies and babies for a while, but we will see them soon. I always forget to take pictures:( They are all so cute and unique. I love seeing them interact. She has really gotten better with her socialization skills. She plays with the other babies at the gym too and the care takers have told me shes always very well behaved, she shares, and has a positive disposition towards the others. That makes me happy :D I hope she has these same feelings towards brother!
Tomorrow we have to go out to Canyon Lake for a mandatory company picnic for Erik's work. Call me crazy but I am so excited. I love the sun and water. It will be hot but this pregnant lady is well prepared, I am a true Texan, love this heat!

Proud Mommy Moment

Sofia can read! LOL! Well... let me explain...we bought the Your Baby Can Read program when Sofia was 3 months old. She has been watching the 20 minute videos since then. But I admit, I have not been able to be as into it as I would like. It is very time consuming to do the flash cards and the books every day. Plus with the move I misplaced some of the stuff, I found it now. But she does watch the show and it keeps her attention so its a great babysitter while I wash dishes, clothes, vaccum, etc.



But yesterday she was watching the video and the word "Clap" came on the screen and before "the voice" announced clap, she started clapping. Then the phrase "Arms Up" came on and again before "the voice" announced arms up she put her arms up!



I wanted to post this last night but was afraid it was a coincidence but nope, we watched it again last night and shes also done it again this morning. Same thing, she recognizes "clap" and "arms up". Now I am super motivated to really get with the program :) I've always thought she was smart for her age, but I think all moms think that.

I would like to add for any of you who are thinking of purchasing the program but have held back due to money, its worth it! Sofia has very few toys, none of which we bought her, they have all been gifts.We chose to invest in this program and I am pleased with it so far and would recommend it to others! We are going to buy her the one in Spanish next year before she starts the spanish immersion program :) Curious to see how it all works out!

Also, Sofia is a whole new kid. Shes walking everywhere, eating big people food, and talking non- stop. She will tell you her whole life story if you understand babble and have the time :) Erik teases her and asks "how do you know so much?" :)
